Got the kit for this sundress in Idaho while visiting my Sis last Fall. It came with the gathered fabric skirt and the chocolate brown yarn for the top. I knitted the top, attached it and also added some needed length by adding some fabric and lace to the hem. Hopefully, she will wear it for a couple of years. She manages to do that somehow. She will turn eight in September and she is starting to change her appearance from little girl to blossoming young lady. She saw me knitting a pair of socks for myself and put in her request for socks as well. Purple, you might of guessed. I am busy knitting on them now.

Finally finished the lace stole pattern from a Debbie Bliss magazine.

The pattern was titled Pink Perfection and was in the Spring/Summer 2012 edition. I have been wanting to knit a long stole instead of the many triangle or crescent shaped ones I have knitted in the past. I chose some lovely blue yarn I purchased at the wool festival last year. It was a very thin lace. I used plenty of stitch markers but no life lines. I took a Craftsy knitting video class this winter and was able to pick up a lot of hints from it. There are dozens of mistakes in this stole but I kept in mind what I learned in the class, "most importantly, if you make a mistake, try and keep the pattern looking the same", tried to do that. After blocking I noticed a hole created by a dropped stitch. Had to quickly sew and repair it. I love the leaf pattern in this stole and it is why I chose it.
Loopy Ewe was having a trunk show for Blue Sky Alpaca yarns. They had several lovely samples there but I really liked the Etched Rio Wrap. The sample was in a lovely shade of light gray but I don't look good in light gray so I opted for the colorway, Cinnabar. I knitted on this straight for two weeks. It was a fun knit with a little lace edging to break up the endless stockinette. I love it and plan to wear it on our trip to Nova Scotia and Canada.
It is Silky Wool XL, I love the color. I made this cardigan from the November Knits book. It is called the Market Jacket. I love the fit and the three quarter sleeves. It was a fun knit and has inspired a few other knitters from our Arvada knit group to knit it as well. My camera does not capture the wonderful cable and lace design on the front of the sweater, sleeves and back.....Sigh! Trust me it is a great design.
Mostly baby stuff. Lots of pink and pastels for the new arrival coming next month. My granddaughter Amanda, is expecting the beginning of October but little Abigail may come even sooner. Went to her lovely baby shower last week. My daughter, Stacey, is very creative and had it decorated to the "nines". I had three wicker baskets filled with things I had either knitted or bought. It was sooo fun. Can't wait to see the "wee one wearing all these.

Well, I just posted two photos on my blog of the two items I have knitted for my great granddaughter Abigail. She is due in October so my knitting needles have been zooming away to get ready for this new little addition to the family.
The kitten is a pattern that I found in The Essential Baby and Gift Collection of Love Knitting. The pattern is call "A purrfect partner". I loved it when I saw it and so did my dear friend, Gail. She is expecting her first grandchild in December. She does not know the sex of the baby, they want to find out when the baby is born. So Gail is using more primary colors for her kitten. I used up my many leftovers of Baby Cashmerino.
The sweater is a pattern from Debbie Bliss's book, Simply Baby. It is a fair isle that I have knitted before for Coventry when she was a baby. I love Debbie Bliss's baby patterns and I love knitting with Baby Cashmerino.
Next I will attempt to post a photo of Coventry in her knitted red sundress. I started this on a retreat this Spring. The pattern is called "Very Cherry". It is put out by Never Not Knitting. I debated whether to make it in a pastel but decided to go for the same shade of red they used in the photo on the pattern. Coventry loved it and during her short visit here in Colorado she helped me pick out some yarn at Knit Knack for the next sweater project for Grandma. It will be a cardigan in pink, her favorite color.
I hope to post more in the future. I think it was perfect timing to have this new great granddaughter to knit for. I was really missing knitting the precious baby things. Abigail should keep me busy for years to come and I promise to post photos of her when the wee one comes.
The cooler weather is a welcome relief after such a long, hot summer. I have many, many projects ahead of me but I am seriously trying to knit one or two at a time and not have bags of uncompleted projects. Wish me luck on that one, it has been a challenge in the past.

Last Fall I went to the Black Water Abbey trunk show at Shuttles. Marilyn King had many sample sweaters to try on and the yarn and patterns to complete the project. I love her yarn and I have become a big fan of the designer, Bonnie Marie Burns. She sells her patterns under the brand, Chic Knits. I have knitted more than a few of her patterns and they are well written and the fit seems to work for me. I was itching to get started on the pattern, Derica Kane. I purchased the DK Black Water Abbey yarn in the colorway, Autumn. I really thought the color would be great for Fall and it would get me out of the blue/green phase I have been stuck in forever. The pattern was a simple lace pattern and although I HATE LACE, I did manage to complete the sweater if I removed myself from any obvious distraction. Television, Phone calls and most importantly a retired and bored husband who wants to chat........ Love the DK weight of the sweater and the neckline.

A few weeks ago we made another of our Nebraska road trips. Went to see Coventry to celebrate her 6th birthday. I had knitted her a sweater from a Plymouth yarn that self stripes and mimics a fair isle design. I used the neckdown children's pullover pattern from Knitting Pure & Simple. It was so easy and it fit her perfectly with a bit of room to grow. I love knitting these patterns. They are so easy and a great project to take to group knitting.
Also posting a photo of the Balloon Fiesta held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, that we just got back from. The early mornings and late nights were totally worth it to see over five hundred balloons ascend the early dawn sky. What fun. So glad we went.

Oh how I love having a grandaughter to knit for. She is five going on six years old and I know maybe very soon she won't be interested in wearing Grandma's handiwork. But for now, she seems to enjoy seeing what I have knitted for her since my last visit.
I knit the blue and white sundress with Cotton Ease yarn. It is a great yarn for knitting clothes for kids. Washes and wears nicely and is priced reasonably. The pattern for the sundress was found in Knit Simple magazine, spring/summer issue. I made the size 4 for her and it just fits, but not for long as she has grown a bit taller than the last time I saw her.
The orange top I knitted from the Cotton Ease yarn as well. It is called the Tea Party Top and was found on the Lion Brand website. This is the second time I have knit this pattern. The first top she wore for three years, so I decided to make a larger size this time. I knit the size four. She is almost six but she is tiny for her age.

The surprise package I ordered from Craftsy. Com. It was the June one and it was purely an impulse buy. I needed some yarn that had no specific purpose.....and I need the fun of the unknown, I have plenty of yarn in my stash but I thought I would give it a try. For forty dollars you were promised a value of over a hundred dollars in yarn or needles. Well.......now I see the same yarn for clearance prices on their website sales. Like I said, it was an impulse decision and I may wait awhile before I try it again. The brown yarn is Rustic, a Cascade worsted weight. The pink is a dk weight, also from Cascade yarns, called Kaleidoscope. The turquoise yarn is a fingering weight from Wolf Creek Wools, 2 skeins of 434 yards of superwash merino and cashmere. (this I love)....then the size 15, 14 " needles from Lantern Moon. Very nice, but a size I probably won't use much, if at all. So there. Not bad, but not great.
By the way, Paul seems to be doing better. The long screw is finally out of his ankle and he is walking in a Cam boot for awhile. Then hopefully in a few weeks he can walk without it. It has been a long, hot and exhausting summer so far. Looking ahead to things lightening up some and more knitting.cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07216466588775666670noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26374170409332813.post-53370373626338281242012-05-26T17:57:00.000-07:002012-05-26T17:57:42.808-07:00It started out with our trip to Nebraska. We were going to attend our son-in-law's graduation from Creighton University, he was getting his MBA.
The trip did not exactly go as planned. We attended the hooding ceremony, ( my first experience seeing that ), and then a lovely reception was held afterwards.
The next afternoon my husband Paul, was kindly asked by my daughter, Jennifer, if he could install 3 light fixtures. Well, the first two light fixtures were installed
without a hitch, but you know the saying, "the third one"s a charm", well not so charming. Hubby took a misstep on a six foot ladder and broke his ankle in two places and
fractured his fibula as well. A quick trip to the local ER in Papillion, NB, revealed a rather gruesome exray. The orthopedist there told us he would need surgery
but most likely back in Colorado, as he was much too swollen to do it there. So a few days later we made the long trip home with hubby in the back seat of the car,
equipped with ice, 4 pillows and a urinal (quite handy).....
Well, what is a knitter to do but knit him a lovely cast sock to keep his purple toes warm. I thought the shade of purple I chose was quite lovely and it
could go quite nicely with his Rockies shirts. While in Nebraska I gave Coventry her little shrug to try on and it fit perfectly. I love knitting for her. When we
arrived home, our precious neighbor in back of us, Teri, came over with a wonderful dinner for us. The desserts were too pretty to eat, but we did anyway. Had to
take a photo of them before the disappeared in our tummies.
It will be a very loooooooooong summer. The hubby needed surgery on his ankle and leg. It will be a good ten weeks before he has another surgery to remove
the long screw that goes through both the tibia and fibula. After that who knows? I assume we are in for PT and rehab. My house looks like a hospital ward with
wheelchair, walker and crutches. He adorns the couch in the family room and baths in the powder room as he cannot tackle stairs yet. I think I will be getting a lot
of knitting done........

Started the Color Affection Shawl at our knitting retreat in Buena Vista. Good friend and fellow knitter, Christie Ott, showed me the design and I thought it would be a good one to knit as it was pretty mindless but yet fun enough to keep my interest. Used three different colorways of Madeline Tosh fingering yarn. Loved the results and will probably cast on a second one.
Also finished another Coventry sweater at the retreat. It is a pattern called Chloe by Alana Dakos. The original pattern was knitted in three different yarns and striped but I decided to go more neutral and added the crocheted flowers that I purchased at Colorful Yarns. It is a shrug that she can wear for the summer. Hope to get some photos of her wearing it when we attend my son-in-law, John's, graduation from Creighton. He is getting his masters degree in business. Yea!
The family photos were taken at White Fence Farm at Easter. The older young man in the photo sitting next to me is my grandson Andrew. Andrew is a junior this year at CSU, majoring in engineering and computer programming. The little guy with his face painted as Spider Man is my great grandson, Jackson. Jackson is majoring in preschool......and is four years old last month. Love them both. Boy, how time flies.cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07216466588775666670noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26374170409332813.post-69851718879251263952012-03-05T17:11:00.009-08:002012-03-05T17:21:40.242-08:00Collage

Here are a few photos of what has been going on in my life the last few months. Life gets busy and between funerals, 90th birthday party for my Mom and holidays, I have not had a chance to post anything. I have been knitting though. Sweaters for Coventry, socks for my Sis, preemie baby clothes for the wee ones at Good Samaritan nursery, and a sweater for me.

I purchased the pattern and yarn at Shuttles last Fall when they had a trunk show for Black Water Abbey. I tried on their model and decided I needed to knit this one. The sweater pattern can be purchased at Black Water Abbey as well as the yarn. The color is called Iris, I believe. I am pleased with the finished sweater although I could of probably knit the very smallest size. It took quite a bit of knitting time as the sleeves are quite full.
cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07216466588775666670noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26374170409332813.post-20545508887164708472011-10-10T18:39:00.000-07:002011-10-10T18:55:02.528-07:00Alpaca Fun

Wow! It's been awhile since I last posted. I have knit a ton of course but just haven't had a chance to take photos and show you what I have been knitting. I joined a group called "Warm Hearts, Warm Babies". The group meets one Thursday a month at a church in Arvada and takes knitted, crocheted or sewn baby items and delivers them to hospitals, unwed mother's homes, or clinics to distribute to needy Moms. So I have been knitting quite a bit of baby items of late. Have always loved knitting for the "wee ones" and now that my grandkids are getting bigger it gives me a chance to do just that.

This weekend we went to an Alpaca ranch. Who knew that they are located almost in my backyard, right off of Indiana St. The owner, Cheryl, was kind enough to greet us and tell us all about her ranch. They also had beautifully soft alpaca yarn for sale. I bought some bulky weight yarn that came from a cream colored alpaca named Sophie Mae. It was the softest yarn ever. I bought 200 yards, thinking I would knit a hat, but found that I so enjoyed the feel of it that I wanted it even closer to my skin, so it is going to be mittens. Long mittens that will be sure to keep me warm this winter. The pattern I found was a free one on Ravelry, named Lofty Cable Mittens. After reading the comments from other knitters about the pattern running big and knowing that I have itty bitty hands, I changed the needle size from a size 9 to a size 8 for the ribbing and 7 for the remaining pattern. Perfect fit. One down and one to go. The brownish sport weight will be a hat to match a lace scarf I am knitting.

If you ever have a chance to see these beautiful alpaca's, please do so. They have an open house every fall and have invited me to come to there shearing event around Mother's Day in May. Yes, yarn and knitting are included. My dear friend, Gail, had asked me to tag along and help her at the booth this year. I had been unable to go the last 2 times she asked due to health issues, mine and my mother in law's, but this time nothing came in the way, and off we went. I met Gail several years ago. She was a neighbor of mine that lived close by and saw me painting screens for an upcoming Lone Tree show that I did every year. We became close friends and she used my painting abilities to come up with stands to display her needlepoint designs. It worked well. Her husband, Ken, hit it off well with my husband, Paul. They have both been engineers at the same company and had similar interests. Since then we have enjoyed each other's company and gone on many trips together, including our last trip to Ireland. Our third, their first.

I enjoyed perusing the aisle after aisle of merchandise. The knitters were mostly on one side of the convention hall and needlework on the other. I made my way to the "other side" when things weren't that busy for Gail and enjoyed seeing what's coming up for the Fall season in knitting yarns and patterns. I also ran into Allegra and Marly Bird, they were checking things out as well for their upcoming designs.

On Friday night we went to "Sample It". It is a one hour free for all held in an enormous room. The distributors select an item that they sell at a great price to all who attend. It was my one chance to buy, as the show itself is only for retailers. I managed to find some great deals and bought a wonderful set of interchangeable circulars and yarn to make a shawl. I had some how lost my knitting that I brought on the plane to Columbus and I was itching to knit "something"........I also purchased a lovely Atenti bag. The photos are of Gail in her Artists Collection booth and the some of the wooden stands I paint. Also there is a photo of the goods I brought back. All together, it was a great time. Tired, but happy.....

cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07216466588775666670noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26374170409332813.post-17040217473225013512011-06-02T19:13:00.000-07:002011-06-02T19:18:51.274-07:00Coventry and Shamus

Here is my grandaughter, Coventry, modeling the cardigan I knit her from Interweave magazine. It had been sixteen years since we had been there last and much had changed. Ireland had gone from a poor economy to prosperity and back to the poor economy again. As we visited Dublin, I could see many of the properties with "For Let" signs on them. Much like our stagnant real estate market in the U.S. But I could also see many new homes that had been built during their prosperous years in many of the towns we visited. It had become much like our suburbia. Lost was some of the charm I saw years ago. What wasn't lost was the warmth of the people in Ireland. It will always reamain one of the friendliest places I know. I reunited with a pub singer in Dunmore, Ritchie Roberts. He came out to our hotel on our second trip to Ireland to entertain us when we couldn't make it to Farley's Tavern in Passage East. He still has a wonderful tenor voice and it was magical to hear him sing once again. I only managed to find one dedicated yarn shop in Killarney, wouldn't you know it, it was closed when we were there. Oh well, there may be a 4th visit someday.

cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07216466588775666670noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26374170409332813.post-2159019438182130252011-02-16T12:26:00.000-08:002011-02-16T12:42:37.561-08:00More Knitting

Yes, we have had some January. Snow and sub-zero temperatures can dim the spirits of many, but knitters can always look at the upside. Uninterrupted time to stay in those cozy jammies and knit all day long. Not a chance that someone will show up at the door and interrupt the whole thing. Along with recuperating from gallbladder surgery, I had plenty of excuses to stay in my jammies by a warm fireplace watching old movies and knitting. Here are a few of my finished objects.

1. Two scarves. One knit in Noro Silk Garden sock yarn , pattern taken from the book Sock Yarnk One-Skein Wonders. If you don't have this book there are 101 patterns for sock yarn.

The other scarf is a ruffled concoction that I slightly altered from the potato chip scarf pattern. Casting on 30 stitches and doing short rows. Knit with Crazy Zauberball sock yarn

2. A sweet yoked pullover for Coventry. Shipped off to Nebraska in time for her Valentine's party. I got this pattern from my dear friend Sally. She copied it from a magazine that had to come from the 40's or 50's. Knit in one piece, fun and quick.

3. My second sweater from this pattern, Mondo Cable Pulli. Knit from some beautiful Turquoise wook that I purchased a few years back at the Estes Park Wool Festival.

I am trying to knit with the yarn I have and not purchase any more for awhile. Requests were made and warm socks and hats were in the works. You only hope they appreciate all the hard work that goes into knitted gifts. Either way, I love knitting for my family.cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07216466588775666670noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26374170409332813.post-47766454637918401032011-02-16T12:21:00.001-08:002011-02-16T12:24:07.838-08:00Christmas Gift Knitting<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; Saw Maine, New Hampshire, Boston, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Conneticut. Just beautiful. Some of the trees were at their peak, others were still green, but the Sugar Maples were and they were beautiful. Visited 2 knit shops. One in Woodstock Vermont and the other was in Maine. Bought yarn and knitted socks on the bus. We went to Old Sturbridge Village and watched ladies dye the yarn wearing Colonial costumes. Great trip.cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07216466588775666670noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26374170409332813.post-53792908196572505772010-08-02T10:36:00.000-07:002010-08-02T10:37:36.027-07:00<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSzOm6kRZ4ebNGsH8rW67uwnbKkop5LDvltxcD1npyKcvckIoeyZuvdQ3kZ0eZrXWsdsCix6GdEh-a2hAb2ZVzH1hASt1Tj-Sqn8VvQYPJuaVb0RpfscCqSfZiGyl1J2NaneMViAqeTwA/s320/064.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5500868038904246034" />cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07216466588775666670noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26374170409332813.post-85850407012404742842010-08-02T10:29:00.000-07:002010-08-02T10:36:20.744-07:00Coventry and her doll<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 254px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC5hQbEnTQVTYS4ARqBkws4wCyOI8wUjnfG00Qgc099fcqCDwOHSnAiguxO3RDtjfmwE3DiF2je2fowTJ55MUmCIAWM4cn0A7NBFkXpFLfzs0EfnELH6yA_oYmPtisE7but8W99QKCU5w/s320/071.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5500867626973990882" />
Well the doll is finished and residing with her new owner, my grandaughter Coventry. Better known as Covey or Cici. I gave it to her at her brother Cameron's birthday party as a consolation gift. I always try to bring something for the sibling missing out on a gift. It was well received even though most of the clothes were either felted on or sewn on. Hopefully they will stay that way. On the knitting front, I am presently busy working on a sample sweater for BWA. It is the Cassidy pattern from Chic Knits and it is a hoodie. It is almost entirely cables so it is not a quickie project but I think it will be beautiful, a lovely colorway called Pippin. Have a great summer......cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07216466588775666670noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26374170409332813.post-16831508153419572752010-06-14T18:15:00.000-07:002010-06-14T18:24:11.215-07:00A windy day in Santa FeI always wanted to go to Santa Fe and just never had the chance to do so. Was not under the best of circumstances. We were on our way back from an unexpected trip to Encinitas, CA., where we visited with my vagabond Mother in Law. She had just returned from a trip to Russia, then England, where she was hospitalized. By the time we left, she was doing much better and promised us that at 86 yrs. old, this would be the last trip on the "bucket list"......we only pray she was being truthful, and not under the influence of her many pain meds.
Santa Fe was beautiful and had three wonderful knit shops I visited while ducking out of 45 mph winds. There is not much vegetation in Santa Fe, so the wind provided a virtual sandblasting. If you go, visit Needles Eye, that is where I got the cutest doll and clothing kit along with the adorable ruffled shrug pattern. I know that Coventry will love them, and her birthday is in September (gives Grandma time to knit them). Also don't miss Tutto's, a new knit shop. The guys that own and operate the shop used to be reps for Opal sock yarn. They had machine made socks from Opal that were originally used for samples. Had to snatch a pair up, along with a very nice shawl pin. The third shop I visited was "Oodles". Very nice ladies there, but alas, no purchases.
Loved Santa Fe and will have to go back and try and make Taos as well. Who knows, maybe I will see "Julia" in one of the knit shops in Taos.cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07216466588775666670noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26374170409332813.post-23276251945360901612010-06-14T18:14:00.001-07:002010-06-14T18:15:22.621-07:00Ruffled Shrug Pattern<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLbYXvh-_b-vFYpASunddVWkbRtYpElzU-Lm8Az8WDCI2wPUOPsRgduJ85ZLzNQuXH2u-F0MRmLd2YUYx7LM4binthHRX-Xb_iN4VuxDEBOYYZdbD3vVFNpB1GeIPE_3xoxPLUp-dWvAU/s320/016.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482802818399860754" />cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07216466588775666670noreply@blogger.com1
